Frequently asked questions

What do I need to install the app? An iPhone running iOS 26.0 or later. For offline translation, allow about 5 GB of free storage to download and unpack the translation model. In version 3.0, you can choose online translation without downloading that offline model; online mode requires Internet access and available points.

Does the app work offline? Offline Live translation works without Internet after its model and required language assets are downloaded, because its audio, captions, and translation run on your iPhone. Cue, Notes, and the optional online translation mode require Internet.

How do I use online translation in version 3.0? Choose online mode and your languages on the home screen. Before the first session, read the text-processing notice and agree to start. The app recognizes speech on your iPhone, sends the relevant text for translation, and shows or speaks the translated result. You can use online mode for one-way listening or a two-way conversation. Its point cost and your available balance are shown in the app.

What is sent during online translation? Recognized text, selected languages, speaker-side labels, and relevant recent conversation context are sent through our service to the AI service handling the request. If you use the AI assistant, the goal and background you provide can also be included. Audio stays on your iPhone. You can stop the session or withdraw online-translation consent in the app’s settings. See the online translation privacy details.

Is my audio sent anywhere? No. Your microphone audio is processed on your device and is never uploaded. Online translation sends recognized text, as described above. See our Privacy Policy.

What is sent when I use Cue or Notes? Text needed for the feature you start is sent through our Cloudflare service and AI gateway to third-party AI services. In version 3.0, AI reply suggestions can update during an online conversation; Notes are generated when you request them. Live audio is not sent. Local transcripts and notes remain on your device until you delete them and may be included in iOS backups that you control.

How do I manage a subscription? Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Open the app’s Settings → Membership & points to see your tier, or use your Apple Account subscription settings to change or cancel renewal. Monthly points do not carry into a later billing period.

Why does it need microphone and speech-recognition access? Both are required to listen to speech and transcribe it on-device for translation. You can manage these permissions in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.

Why does translation quality vary? Automated, on-device translation depends on audio clarity, accents, and the language pair. Some languages are labeled Beta and may be less reliable. Please don’t rely on translations for critical situations — see our Terms of Use.
